I have gotten up for College GameDay for as long as I can remember. Watching the guys on the bench is something I look forward to every Saturday morning. I love the concept of that being the work that these guys do. What a life. Desmond Howard, Rece Davis, Kirk Herbstreit, and Lee Corso get flown out every week to the nations biggest game to watch practice, talk to coaches, and get a behind the scenes look on everything going on that week. That sounds like a life I would love to live.
During the second week of this college football season, I came up with an idea. At the end of the show, the staff makes their game predictions on about ten of the biggest games around the nation. Why not test myself against these guys? The competition factor was enough for me to instantly start jotting down their predictions. As they made their picks, I was coming up with a prediction of my own at the same pace. Chances were that I would not stand a chance against these guys. I mean, they get paid a lot of money to be good at this and have been at it for years. I, on the other hand, would consider myself an above average college football fan. Common sense would tell you that I would respectably come in third place, if I got lucky a couple times.
Now, I look forward to this every single week. Not only am I keeping up with the GameDay staff, I am leading the pack. When the staff unanimously picked Ohio State to beat Oklahoma in week two, I picked the Sooners. When Clemson traveled to Louisville to take on the Cardinals, I was alone again in thinking Dabo Swinney and his Tigers would come out on top.
I do have a slight advantage on Herby because he cannot predict the games that he commentates on TV every week, but my winning percentage is still slightly higher. Ultimately, what I am saying is that I have promoted myself to the College GameDay desk on Saturday mornings. You will not see me on TV, unfortunately, but you will be receiving my picks, along with the rest of the GameDay staff, shortly after Noon on Saturdays from now to the end of the season. I am going to continue to push myself to compete with some of the greatest minds and personalities in the profession. Below are the standings from week two to week five. There is still a long season ahead of us and much more predictions to come. I know you guys are rooting for me to win this competition that only exists to me, so I will give it my all to not let you down.
